My top teaching tips for coaching physical education

+- My top teaching tips for coaching physical education

hey teachers and educators is Danny here and today we're gonna , go through six fundamental tips to help you improve your PE lessons and make them super engaging for your students so not everyone is the most confident .

when it comes to teaching PE but if you can start to implement these principles , I promise you that you and your students are gonna have so much more of an enjoyable and challenging P lesson now .

I like to focus on enjoyment team cooperation and individual effort and it's really important especially through , the early years that you don't concentrate too much on competition and eating the other players or the other  teams but try to focus on individual effort and really give a lot of praise for that number one demonstration .

it's really important that you visually show your students how to perform the skill now it doesn't matter if you're not a sports player yourself that's okay if you need to you can also use this child to show the skills to the rest of the class and they can find it easier to relate to them as well make sure  .

the students get to see the action from the side and back so they know what the skill looks like you can also ask for feedback with questions to check for understanding so for example focus on my legs when I keep the ball where do I place my non kicking leg what part of the foot do I keep the ball with what can I do to get more power in the shot you can also watch my videos with your students where I show exactly how to perform those individual sport skills number two mirroring so once you've explained to your students and they know what the skill looks like it's really important that they get a feel for themselves so without a ball have them practice going through the motions of that skill that they are learning so for example if you're practicing a basketball chest pass holding the ball with two hands you'll get a step and push the ball out in front of you go through that three or four times and then practice with a ball number three skill cues now you can use skill cues or unique teaching phrases to help your students understand .

how to perform that skill in a more exciting way so for example if you're over armed throwing a ball tell your students to stand in a warrior pose and hold the cannon  , ball behind you and point to the castle before firing so  you can refer to balls as fruit or treasure you can refer to cones as pizzas or mines or you can refer to targets as battleships the fourth principle is to maximize now sometimes you might have a large class with twenty or thirty students .

so we want to make sure that we create the right environment for students to have lots of practice with the balls and the less waiting around for better so when we're needed create an additional line add in an extra group add an extra equipment more balls more racquets more goals more targets whatever you can do to keep the students active and engaged instead of waiting around number five challenge now I really like to encourage personal achievement I don't focus too much on competition of beating others but what I like to focus on is the personal effort and really pushing the students to try and beat their own purse best so set them tasks like see if you can score more than four or see how many goals you can score in a row I'll see how many you can complete within two minutes number six is to manage now  .

chances are your students are full of energy full of excitement but we need to get them to concentrate .

while you're explaining so you can get them to hold their balls in different ways if they've got basketballs you can get them to sit on their basketball like it's a horse or if they got soccer balls you can tell them to squash the tomato by holding .

the ball underneath their foot you can also keep their attention by educating them about different muscles in the body so for example you can get them to put their arms on their biceps and hold them there or keep their hands on their hamstrings which is the back of your legs or get them to sit down sitting on their gluteus maximus which is your bottom make sure you share this video with all your teacher friends and check out the links below we all have access to loads of different sport s implants you .
